Super easy felt flower tutorial

This is a birthday week in my family.. Sunday was my father-in-law's birthday, today is my niece's birthday and Friday is my mom's birthday! And I want to make some small special something for all of them.. whew!

I bought a dress for my niece Angel for her birthday, and then decided to make her some new hairclips to go along with her new dress! Here is how they turned out (pictured with the dress)..

These are pretty easy to make, and once you make one, you will be hooked onto making more and more!

So let me start with the things needed:

Felt sheet
Green/Brown felt sheet for leaves
Some cute small buttons (small buttons work best for these type of flowers)
Scissors
Double prong hair clips (you can put these flowers on any hair accessory - double prong, single prong, hair band, fold over elastic, give me some more ideas!)
Hot glue gun
Pen for marking on felt
Any object to trace circle (should be as big as the flower you want to make)

Here is the finished product:

Lets start with the steps to making these easy-peasy felt flower hair clips:

Trace 4 circles onto the felt and cut the circles just inside the pen mark so that the marks don't show in the    flower. Cut 1 more circle a little smaller than the first 4 circles. This will be the base for the flower which should not show from below.

Take 1 bigger circle, dab a small dot of glue in the middle and fold it in half so that both sides stick slightly with each other. Do the same with the other three bigger circles as well. Here is how it should look like:

Now follow these steps in order:

Now take the smaller base circle, put a small dot of glue in the center and place one of the above circles on the glue like this.

Place 2 more circles clockwise. One half will be sticking to the circle before it and the other half will be sticking to the base circle.

Take the fourth circle and place it such that one half will be on top of a previous circle and the other will be below it. This is how it should look like.
Now put glue in the middle and place your button. Your flower is ready.
Now for the leaf (which is optional - these look cute without the leaf too!), cut this shape from the green/brown felt and glue it at the back of the flower:

You can attach this flower to a clip directly, but I like my clips all neat and tidy. So I line my clips with some nice ribbon, attach the flower, and then glue no-slip liner also, so my li'l munchkins are comfortable wearing these clips all day long!

I just LOVE these buttons! And the flowers! And the hair clips! :):)

And yeah.. I cannot forget my inspiration for these.. this site has a very nice tutorial for  beautiful fabric flowers.

Would love to see you making these and sharing what you made. Its very easy and worth a try. These can be used oon hair clips, head bands, glued onto your kiddo's t-shirt, onto cushion covers, on that personalized gift wrap!

Have an awesome day ahead..

First Birthday card for Grandpa

Here I am with a birthday card I made for Baby Noor's grandpa. Since this is his first birthday with Baby Noor, I was all excited to make him something special. This is a CAS card. I had seen this idea of putting a butterfly against a shadow butterfly a long time back on some blog (I don't remember where) and had it in my mind since then. And this was a great opportunity to get it into action.

This layout can be used for almost all occasions like birthday, anniversary, spring, thinking of you.

I stamped individual letters onto different colored cardstock and cut pieces to write up "Happy Birthday DADAJI". "DADAJI" is hindi for grandpa - this card and I guess ALL cards and gifts will be addressed by Baby Noor from now on :).

This card was a lot more fun for me because I tried my hands at making my own envelope for the first time and it looks awesome :). This is a lovely embossed paper I wanted to use since a long time. I will be posting an envelope making tutorial soon!

Would love to have your feedback on this card and would love to hear any suggestions!

Have a wonderful day ahead!

My doodle creations : Hat-trick and Leaf

This is a result of me sitting idle with a white paper and black pen. This art has always been very close to my heart. And I have always received very nice complements from my hubby and family and friends J! Everybody is specially amazed when they ask and I tell them that I havent seen it from anywhere or used any scale/pencil/eraser. It is direct black pen on white paper. I specially love the small black filled sections in this one (I call "Hat-trick"). Gives a very stunning look to the art.

I have a number of such doodles on paper and always think of getting it framed for my own home or as a gift for my mom/sis/MIL, but that day has yet to come. Haven’t given this a shot since Baby Noor came into our lives. Someday.. I will turn it into a gift!

Will be sharing more of these creations in the coming days…

Here is one more…
Do you like this? Does anyone have a specific name for this category of art apart from mehndi (indian henna) designs :)?
